What multimetal VCI film is
BENZ Multimetal VCI Film is a 3-layer blown polyethylene film that carries volatile corrosion inhibitors through the polymer. You convert it into bags, sheets, roll wrap, carton liners and 3D covers. Once the pack is closed, VCI vapour fills the enclosed air and settles on exposed metal, including threads, bores and recesses. When the pack opens, the vapour dissipates. Parts stay dry and can go to inspection, paint or assembly without a degreasing step.
A ferrous-only film is not the right default when steel, aluminium, copper, brass or plated hardware share one carton. Specify a multi-metal, nitrite-free grade for mixed kits. Ask for the metal-compatibility note that applies to the SKU.
How the pack has to be used
VCI film works in a closed volume. It is not a paint and it is not a weatherproof outdoor tarp.
- Pack only clean, dry metal. Coolant, fingerprints and wet board undo the pack.
- Size the bag close to the part so free air stays small and vapour stays concentrated.
- Heat-seal or tape the opening. An open bag is ordinary plastic.
- Match hall and metal temperature before sealing so the part does not sweat inside the film.
- For ocean dwell or long indoor storage, add VCI paper on stacked faces and desiccant in the free volume. Film alone is not a five-year outdoor system.
Formats buyers actually specify
- 2D bags: repeating SKUs, fasteners, bearings, machined kits.
- 3D bags and covers: motors, gearboxes, irregular assemblies.
- Rolls and sheets: wrap, interleave large faces, line cartons and crates.
- Printed bags: quoted when the pack needs a part mark or handling note. A print job is not a customer endorsement.

Density, thickness and units
Polyethylene film density by ISO 1183 is 0.92 to 0.93 g/cm3 on this SKU. That is a real PE range. The thickness unit is micrometres (ISO 4593). A stray backtick on the old WVTR cell is removed.

What is multimetal VCI film used for?
Closed bags, liners and covers around clean metal so rust does not start in storage or transit. Typical parts are machined kits, bearings, fasteners, housings, tools and mixed-metal assemblies.
What does multimetal mean?
One grade is specified for ferrous and non-ferrous metals in the same pack. Confirm the metal list on the grade sheet. Do not assume yellow metals are covered unless that sheet says so.
How thick is the film?
The published grade on this page is 100 micrometres (±10 percent). Other gauges are quoted. Confirm the thickness on the order.
How long does protection last?
Duration depends on seal quality, free volume, climate and metal mix. A closed film pack is not automatically a multi-year outdoor barrier. For long storage or ocean dwell, add paper, a tighter seal and desiccant as required. Ask for the current grade sheet rather than treating a website year-count as a guarantee.
Is the film recyclable?
Plain PE film enters PE recovery streams where those streams exist. Confirm local recycling. Do not describe it as compostable.
Can it replace rust-preventive oil?
On clean, dry parts inside a closed pack, the film is specified so parts unwrap dry. Oil is still used when the process or the customer specification requires a wet film.
Do you make custom bag sizes?
Yes. Quote length, width, gusset, gauge and whether the pack is 2D or 3D. Lead time depends on the conversion, not on a published hour figure.
