Frequently Asked Electronics Packaging Questions

Can standard Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) plastic be used on electronics? +
Absolutely not. Standard industrial VCI plastics are typically high-friction insulators. When parts rub against standard VCI during shipping, it generates massive static electricity (Tribocharging) that will fry a semiconductor immediately. Additionally, basic VCI formulas outgas Amines - a chemical compound that aggressively attacks copper and silver solder, turning PCBs black. You must exclusively utilize Amine-Free, ESD-Safe VCI explicitly built for electronics.
What does JEDEC packaging compliance mean for Surface Mount Devices? +
JEDEC establishes rigorous standards for the microelectronics industry. For moisture-sensitive devices (MSDs), JEDEC requires that components be baked entirely dry, immediately sealed inside a Moisture Barrier Bag (Foil Laminate) with an ultra-low MVTR rating, accompanied by a calibrated amount of Desiccant Packets and a Humidity Indicator Card (HIC). This protocol guarantees zero "pop-corning" damage during the intensive heat of final factory wave-soldering.
Why do some anti-static bags lose their effectiveness over time? +
Many cheap "Pink" anti-static bags rely on a topical surfactant (a liquid spray) applied after the plastic is made. Over 6-12 months, this topical layer evaporates or wipes off, transforming a safe bag into a highly dangerous static generator. BENZ Packaging utilizes permanently embedded polymer antistats continuously extruded directly into the molecular matrix of the plastic film, resulting in infinite, non-decaying electrostatic dissipation.
