Moisture Control

Industrial Desiccants

Every desiccant problem comes down to one question: how much moisture must be removed, in what conditions, for how long? BENZ Packaging engineers the answer with a complete desiccant range, high-capacity calcium chloride container desiccants and nitrite-free activated clay, certified to DIN 55473 and MIL-D-3464E and shipped to 100+ countries. Whatever you need to keep dry, there is a BENZPACK desiccant specified for it.

The Problem

Moisture Is the Most Expensive Thing in the Box

Most cargo damage is not caused by impact or theft; it is caused by water that was never visible at the loading dock. A sealed container, a barrier bag, a crate of electronics or a drum of pharmaceutical intermediate all carry moisture in their air and packing materials, and as that package crosses climate zones the humidity cycles, condenses on cold surfaces and attacks the goods, surface rust on steel, mould on textiles, corrosion on circuit boards, delamination on packaging, label lift on pharma. A desiccant is the small, cheap component that decides whether the consignment arrives saleable or written off.

The mistake buyers make is treating "a desiccant" as one commodity. It is not. The right desiccant depends on the moisture load, the humidity range, the temperature, the duration and the sensitivity of the goods, and choosing the wrong type, or the wrong quantity, is how containers still arrive wet despite carrying desiccant. BENZ Packaging exists to specify the correct desiccant for the exact application, and to manufacture it to the standards that customs authorities, OEMs and cargo insurers recognise worldwide.

The BENZPACK Desiccant Range

Manufactured to MIL, DIN and food-contact standards, specified to the exact moisture load — shown with the indicator cards that monitor them.

Adsorption vs Deliquescence

How We Specify the Right Desiccant

A correct desiccant programme is calculated, not guessed. Our technical team sizes it to your exact cargo and route.

01

Define the Moisture Load

Container or pack volume, weight of hygroscopic packing materials, ambient humidity at sealing, barrier films and the duration of transit or storage.

02

Match the Technology

Calcium chloride for high-load container routes, activated clay for sensitive sealed packs, silica gel where the application calls for it.

03

Calculate the Quantity

The DIN 55473 Desiccant Unit (DU) method converts the moisture load into the exact number of units, so the cargo is neither under- nor over-protected.

04

Specify Format & Placement

Sachets, pole-mount units or bulk, with the installation pattern and documentation (SDS, certifications) for carrier and customs compliance.

The Standards Behind Every BENZPACK Desiccant

StandardWhat it governs
DIN 55473The international reference standard for packaging desiccants and the Desiccant Unit definition used for all quantity calculations.
MIL-D-3464EUS military performance specification for packaged desiccants (Class I & II).
IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033CMoisture-sensitive device handling for PCBs and semiconductors, governing desiccant use in moisture barrier bags.
REACH & RoHSEU chemical-safety registration and restriction of hazardous substances, required for market access in Europe and beyond.
Nitrite-Free & DMF-FreeNo nitrogen additives or dimethylfumarate, safe for ferrous metals, copper, electronics and pharmaceutical packaging.
Total Cost of Ownership

A Desiccant Is Risk Management, Not a Line Item

The price of a desiccant bag is trivial next to the value of what it protects, yet it is routinely procured on unit cost alone. The more useful way to read the number is capacity: because high-purity calcium chloride absorbs many times more water per unit than silica gel, a correctly specified BE DRY or BE DRY ULTRA programme uses fewer units per container, which lowers freight weight, cuts the labour of hanging them, and shrinks the stock you carry. The real return, though, is avoided loss — rust on machined steel, mould on textiles, corrosion on circuit boards, delamination on packaging — any one of which can exceed the consignment's value. Specifying the right desiccant, in the right quantity, is the cheapest insurance in the supply chain.

That is why BENZ sizes every job to the DIN 55473 / 55474 Desiccant Unit method rather than selling by raw weight, provides the REACH and 100% DMF-free documentation European procurement requires, and publishes a free desiccant calculator so the quantity is engineered, not guessed.
