Factory Relocation
& Plant Shifting

Relocating a factory is not a removal job, it is an engineering project where the real cost is the production you lose while machines are down. Plan it badly and a move overruns by weeks; plan it well and the line restarts on schedule. BENZ Packaging surveys, dismantles, preserves, crates, transports, reinstalls and recommissions complete plants and machine shops, on site and across borders, certified for 100+ countries.

The Challenge

The Move Is Easy to Start and Expensive to Get Wrong

The hard part of a factory move is not lifting the machines, it is the planning that keeps the business running around it. A plant is a web of machines, services and layouts commissioned over years; pull it apart without a documented plan and you lose the alignment between cells, the cable and pipe routing, the spare-part and tooling sets and the sequence the line runs in, and you reconnect it at the new site chasing faults instead of making product. On top of that sit real export exposures, corrosion, shock and customs compliance, and real safety obligations: a relocation must run on risk assessments, method statements and lifting plans, not improvisation.

BENZ runs a relocation as one accountable project with downtime as the headline metric. We survey both the origin and the destination, map and tag every machine, cable, pipe and service against a master layout, and build a phased plan so parts of the plant keep producing while others are moved. Each machine is preserved and crated to its own standard, shipped as a coordinated consignment, then reinstalled to the planned layout with the services, power, water, hydraulics and pneumatics, reconnected and a controls-led restart bringing the plant back online in sequence. One partner owns it from the moment production stops at origin to the moment it resumes at destination.

What a Factory Relocation Covers

From the first dual-site survey to a plant producing again, handled as one project.

Dual-Site Survey & Planning
Surveys at both origin and destination, a layout and readiness assessment, and a phased move plan with timelines and resources.
Layout Mapping & Tagging
Every machine, cable, pipe and service photographed and tagged against a master layout so the plant goes back exactly as planned.
Sequenced Dismantling
Disconnection and dismantling in a documented sequence, in phases where production must continue, protecting alignment and services.
Preservation & Crating
Each machine preserved with VCI and desiccant and crated on heat-treated, ISPM-15 timber engineered to its weight.
Transport & Logistics
Heavy lifting, permits, transport and customs documentation, coordinated as one consignment across road, sea and air.
Reinstall & Recommission
Machines positioned to the planned layout, media reconnected and a controls-led restart through recommissioning into production.

Factory Relocation Project Checklist

What a BENZ relocation covers from the first survey to a plant producing again.

  • Survey origin and destination; assess layout, readiness and bottlenecks
  • Agree objectives, timelines, phasing and a downtime target
  • Produce risk assessments, method statements and lifting plans
  • Tag and photograph every machine, cable, pipe and service against a master layout
  • Disconnect and dismantle in the documented, phased sequence
  • Preserve each machine with VCI and desiccant and crate to ISPM-15
  • Lift, load, permit and document transport as a coordinated consignment
  • Reinstall to the planned layout, reconnect services and run a controls-led restart

How We Run a Factory Relocation

One partner, from the moment production stops at origin to the moment it resumes at destination.

01

Dual-Site Survey & Plan

Surveys at origin and destination, a documented dismantling and reinstallation plan with a phased schedule and a downtime target.

02

Safety & Tagging

Risk assessments, method statements and lifting plans, and tagging of every machine, cable, pipe and service against a master layout.

03

Sequenced Dismantling

Disconnection and dismantling in the planned order, in phases where production must continue, protecting alignment and routing.

04

Preservation & Crating

Each machine preserved with VCI vapour-phase inhibitor (MIL-PRF-3420H) and desiccant and crated on heat-treated, ISPM-15 timber.

05

Lifting, Transport & Customs

Heavy lifting, permits, lashing and full export documentation, coordinated across road, sea and air as one consignment.

06

Reinstall & Recommission

Reinstalled to the planned layout, services reconnected, and a controls-led restart through alignment and recommissioning into production.

Standards Behind Every Relocation

StandardRelevance to factory relocation
ISPM-15Heat-treated, stamped timber clears every crated machine through customs without quarantine.
MIL-STD-2073Methods of preservation and packing: the benchmark applied per machine across the plant.
MIL-PRF-3420HVCI performance: protects machined surfaces across every machine in the move.
RAMS & Method StatementsRisk assessments, method statements and lifting plans govern a safe, compliant relocation.
ISO 9001 & ISO 14001Quality and environmental certification across all BENZ facilities.
