Machinery Packaging to a German Receiving Specification

A crate that arrives rust-free can still fail inbound inspection if the packing list, timber marks or desiccant record do not match what the German stores team will check. BENZ mobilises project teams to the origin plant to survey the machine and pack it so the physical pack and the document set are the same job.

Write the pack against the inbound list

When a German buyer issues a packing specification, that document is an input to the survey. It commonly states timber treatment, whether a sealed barrier is required, how desiccant is to be sized and recorded, marking language, and how the lid must come off at the receiving dock. ISPM-15 heat-treatment marks have to be visible on the members the inbound inspector will see. Where desiccant protection is required, bags may be specified to DIN 55473 and the required number of desiccant units calculated to DIN 55474 or the customer's approved packing specification. The units are recorded so stores can check them against the list.

Sit time still matters. A machine that will wait in a German warehouse through a cold week, then meet heated hall air, can sweat on bright faces left open. A unit that installs the same day into a dry hall may need less barrier. The survey records warehouse time and season. It does not assume one crate type for every shipment to Germany.

Lift marks and centre of gravity have to match the crane the receiving hall will actually use. A packing list that shows one lift point while the crate is built for another is how a physically sound case still waits at the gate.

On the origin floor

Survey, preservation and the document set

Teams work where the machine still stands: photographs of ways, flanges and lift points, residual-fluid status, lockout, and whether the cargo is air, road or ocean. Exposed ferrous takes VCI where the survey agrees. Control cabinets are sealed against dust before timber is cut. Mixed lots are normal. A machining centre, a panel and a compressor in one shipment do not share one packing method.

Load-out includes the document set: packing list, photographs of the closed crate, timber marks, desiccant record if used, and any buyer form the receiving plant asked for. BENZ executes that heavy machinery packaging as a turnkey job on the origin floor.

Useful information for a quote: origin plant, German destination, equipment list, size and weight, photographs, the buyer packing specification if you have one, expected warehouse time, transport mode, and the movement window.

What to send

Evidence the receiving plant will actually check

Photographs of ways, flanges and the existing packing, if any, save a second site visit. A packing list drafted from memory is how a crate arrives with the wrong centre of gravity. If the buyer specification is in German, send it as issued; the survey will read it rather than guess a translation.

Residual oil, coolant or hydrotest water still in the machine is a plant decision to clear. The packing crew records the status. Sealing a wet interior is how desiccant is wasted and how the inbound stores team opens contaminated or corroded equipment.

Air freight to Germany wants a compact crate and a known centre of gravity. Ocean wants a case that will wait. Those two are different specifications. Say which one it is on the first note.
