What an experienced packer records before cutting timber
A production-grade Rotterdam survey is done at the unit, not from a nameplate photo. Capture: operating mass and centre of gravity, residual process fluids, nozzle and shaft condition, lift-point ratings, plant crane limits, gate and heavy-haul constraints, expected yard days before cut-off, preferred shipping mode (dry / open-top / flat-rack / breakbulk), whether the unit is power-class or process-class, and the final import country. Photograph lift lugs and accessory crates. Missing instrumentation kits and unbraced rotors cause as many claims as broken boards.
For power equipment in the 250 MW to 450 MW class packing range, add rotor support method, barrier bag free-air volume, desiccant calculation basis, and any destination rules for wood marks or packing declarations. For process skids, add nozzle blanking and whether the unit will ship oil-free. For flat-rack jobs, document the interface points that sea-fastening engineers will need so packaging does not hide or weaken them.
