What a US plant survey has to settle

Interstate moves and export moves fail for different reasons. Where regulated solid-wood packaging is used for an international shipment, treatment and marking are specified to the destination's applicable ISPM-15 requirements. Processed-wood materials such as plywood may be exempt, subject to the destination rules and customer specification. The survey records destination, dwell, and who is responsible for draining fluids, lockout and decontamination under the plant's own EHS rules. BENZ does not assume those steps. The packing method is written after they are known.

Climate is an input, not a slogan. Gulf humidity and chloride affect how long an unpainted face can sit outdoors. Great Lakes winter air condenses on cold metal at an unheated dock. Pacific marine air wets cargo that waits at a west-coast berth. Inland warehouses freeze and thaw. None of those conditions dictate a single crate. They change whether a sealed barrier and desiccant belong in the specification, and whether the crate must survive open-yard time.

Cranes, millwrights and licensed heavy-haul are typically plant- or project-controlled. The packing crew works inside that window. Accountability for the pack is agreed in the scope, not implied by whoever hired the crane.

On-site work, then the route

Teams survey on the plant floor: machine type, lift points, residual fluids, photographs, shutdown dates, and whether the cargo will sit, stuff the same day, or wait at a port. Preservation, blocking, crate or skid, marking and load-out follow that survey. Mixed lots are normal. A press, a panel and a compressor in one shutdown do not share one packing method.

Useful information for a quote: state and plant, equipment list, approximate sizes and weights, photographs, operational or shutdown status, destination, expected storage, and any customer packing specification. If fluids or permits sit in front of the pack, say so. That usually sets the start date.
