BE DRY is a high-absorption desiccant based on magnesium chloride combined with an alumino-silicate clay carrier. Unlike a plain adsorbent that only holds water on its surface, BE DRY is hygroscopic and pulls moisture in fast, more than 140% of its own weight at 40°C and 95% RH, and roughly four times the rate of silica gel. What sets it apart is what happens next: it converts the captured moisture into a stable solid that does not leak and does not release the water back, even when the surrounding space heats up. That is exactly the condition inside a sealed automotive lamp or a packed electronics enclosure, which warms in the sun or in operation and would drive re-evaporated moisture back onto the very surfaces you are protecting.

BENZPACK BE DRY ULTRA

BE DRY ULTRA is a different chemistry for a different scale of problem. It uses high-purity calcium chloride blended with a modified-starch gelling agent, and it works by absorption: it chemically takes in water and dissolves into it, so its capacity is enormous, up to 300% of its own weight, and over 400% under optimal conditions, roughly ten times what silica gel manages per unit. Its uptake actually accelerates as relative humidity climbs toward 100%, which is precisely the profile of a sealed shipping container crossing warm, humid seas. The gelling agent then traps the absorbed water in a leak-proof solid gel so it cannot drip back onto the cargo. It hangs inside the container and is sized by the DIN 55473 method; a 40ft container of hygroscopic cargo typically needs about 10 to 12 one-kilogram units. It is single-use by design, because the chemistry converts it to gel over the voyage.

C DRY is an activated clay adsorbent, and its job is protection inside a sealed moisture barrier bag. It captures water on its internal surface, stays solid, and does not react chemically, which is what you want in direct contact with bare electronics, printed circuit boards, machined metals and pharmaceutical goods. It is nitrite-free and DMF-free, so it will not corrode metal or fail a customs screen, and it is built to the standards that govern electronics dry-packing: MIL-D-3464E and IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033C, the same standards that define moisture-sensitive-level packing. It works from low humidity upward, holding roughly 25 to 100% of its weight depending on conditions. Where BE DRY ULTRA is about raw capacity and BE DRY is about a warm sealed microclimate, C DRY is about compliance and metal safety inside the bag.

Where Buyers Get It Wrong

The most expensive mistake is putting silica gel or clay in a shipping container. Those adsorbents saturate at roughly 25 to 40% of their weight and then stop, early on the long, hot routes where you need protection most, which is why calcium chloride BE DRY ULTRA exists. The opposite mistake is dropping calcium chloride into a small sealed electronics bag, where it deliquesces into gel and is simply the wrong tool; that space wants C DRY for compliance or BE DRY for a warm microclimate.

The subtle one is confusing BE DRY and BE DRY ULTRA because the names look related. They are not the same chemistry and not the same job. BE DRY is magnesium chloride for in-pack and lamp condensation, and it holds moisture even when heated. BE DRY ULTRA is calcium chloride for the container, built for raw capacity as humidity rises.
