Organisation layer

ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 in export packaging

ISO management system certificates describe how an organisation designs and controls processes. For export buyers they answer process discipline questions: document control, non-conformance handling, environmental process structure. They do not replace product-level lab evaluation or OEM grade approval.

ISO 9001:2015

Quality management system. Useful when buyers need assurance that packing materials and services are produced under audited process control for the certified scope.

ISO 14001:2015

Environmental management system. Relevant when supply-chain ESG questionnaires ask how environmental aspects are managed at the manufacturer.

Scope discipline

Read the certificate scope line. A management system certificate does not magically cover every warehouse or every product family unless the scope says so.

What to do in RFQs

Ask for current certificates and keep them with the supplier file. Re-check expiry dates on long framework agreements.

Product laboratory layer

VCI laboratory evaluation, TRGS 615 and third-party tests

Corrosion packaging buyers increasingly ask for laboratory culture, not slogans. OEM pathways

What automotive OEM VCI approvals actually mean

Automotive and industrial OEMs often run material evaluation programmes for packaging that contacts metal parts. A successful pathway means the VCI product family was evaluated against that OEM’s packaging or corrosion-protection expectations and accepted for use under the conditions of that programme. It does not mean every BENZ product is approved by every OEM, and it does not mean a finished machine crate is “OEM certified.”

Grade-tied rule (non-negotiable)

OEM approvals and lab evaluations refer to BENZ VCI products under the conditions of those evaluations. Protection duration is a product specification and varies by grade, enclosure integrity, climate cycles and metal condition. When a buyer asks “are you OEM approved?”, answer with the certificate pack for the exact film, paper or emitter grade on the packing list. Do not market wood crates, generic desiccants or whole-site services as “BMW certified” or “VW certified.”

Why OEMs evaluate VCI

Parts must arrive dry and corrosion-free, often oil-free for clean assembly, across long supply chains and CKD/SKD kits.

What they usually evaluate

Film/paper performance, multimetal behaviour, process cleanliness expectations, documentation quality and handling safety data.

What still remains your job

Correct packing sequence, sealed free volume, desiccant units, clean dry metal and voyage-appropriate duration.

How to store the proof

Wood and moisture layers

ISPM-15, DIN desiccant and barrier language are not OEM VCI letters

Buyers sometimes ask for “all certificates” as if one PDF covers the whole pack. Split the file deliberately.
