Closed case, open crate or skid
Closed case: maximum weather shell and access control for sensitive or high-value units. Open crate: lower mass and ventilation when a separate weather system covers the free volume. Skid or base: for heavy geometry when wrap and barrier systems form the climate shell and the base carries handling loads. Choice follows mass, centre of gravity, lift method, weather exposure and ocean weeks, not habit.
Solid wood packaging material used internationally generally requires treatment and IPPC marking under ISPM-15 when the destination enforces the standard. Processed wood such as many plywood constructions can fall outside solid-wood WPM rules; confirm per construction and destination. See the ISPM-15 export packaging guide and ISPM-15 certified export crates.
