Spare parts export packing is the engineered method that moves high piece-count metal and multimetal kits through multi-day stores, consolidation, CFS or terminal dwell and multi-week ocean climate without open free volume, mixed-metal staining or identity loss at goods-in. It is not the same job as heavy equipment crating. Structure is usually cartons, totes, pallets and cases. The primary control is bag-level free volume plus kit identity that matches the packing list.

Bag-level free volume is the primary control

Spare and component programmes move high piece counts through multi-day stores, consolidation and ocean legs. Unlike a single heavy machine, risk multiplies across kits. Each bare metal set needs closed free volume. Stretch film unitises cartons after free volume exists; it does not replace sealed free volume on bare metal. Open poly bags through multi-week humidity are not a vapour system.

Use multimetal-capable VCI film or VCI paper matched to the metal list. Interleave paper on stacked plates. Emitters or foam in cavities where wrap cannot reach. Heat seal, zipper or proven continuous close. Document the grade on the method note.

Count every dwell stage

Origin plant store plus consolidation warehouse plus CFS or terminal dwell plus ocean weeks plus destination store. Under-counting is the most common design error on spare programmes. A bag that works for three plant days fails at six weeks of tropical humidity if the free volume and desiccant were never sized for that sealed life.

Write the count on the RFQ and the method note. When multi-week ocean humidity applies after warehouse and port dwell, add aluminium barrier free volume and sized desiccant inside the free volume. Container-level desiccant may still be required for FCL climate; it does not replace bag-level free volume on bare shafts in open cartons.

Kit ID that survives handling

Goods-in must reconcile without opening every bag. Print kit ID on the free volume and on the outer carton. Match the same code on the packing list. Use durable labels that survive humidity and abrasion. For multi-case kits, case numbers and total case counts must reconcile. Missing identity stops lines even when corrosion control is perfect.

Grade-tied flexible VCI performance families and vapour-inhibiting ability test culture should be requested where the grade claims them. 1. Confirm metal list and kit ID scheme. 2. Dry clean parts; reject free water. 3. Interleave and bag in multimetal VCI free volume. 4. Place free-volume desiccant when sealed life requires. 5. Close free volume with heat seal or proven continuous close. 6. Label bag and carton with the same kit ID. 7. Unitise cartons with stretch only after free volume exists. 8. What receiving plants must be able to do with spare kits

Goods-in should reconcile kit IDs against the packing list, open only the kits needed for the build, and reverse free volume without guessing bag contents. If every bag must be opened to identify parts, the identity layer failed even if corrosion control succeeded.

State the preservation method on the method note (VCI free volume, oil film or mixed) so destination quality does not invent a wash process.
