How Does VCI Film Work in Freeze-Thaw Warehouses?
VCI film seals a dry vapour-phase inhibitor around clean metal parts. After you place dry parts inside a multimetal bag or under a sealed stretch/shrink wrap, inhibitor molecules vapourise into the enclosed air, settle on exposed metal and interrupt the electrochemical cycle that needs metal, oxygen and moisture together. When the pack opens at a Canadian or U.S. line, the vapour clears. Parts stay dry and clean with no greasy oil to strip before inspection or assembly.
Zerust bag guides and Cortec/Armor multimetal film pages correctly stress three points GTA packing rooms still miss: (1) protection works in the vapour phase, so threads and cavities get covered; (2) multimetal grades matter when steel, aluminium and plated hardware share one auto kit; (3) the pack must stay sealed and the metal must be dry. In Greater Toronto the unique risk is condensation cycling: cold docks, heated stores and long trailer legs toward Buffalo or Windsor create water films inside plain poly. BENZ maps that chemistry to Mississauga auto kits, Brampton fabrication and border dwell so "replace rust preventive oil" becomes a practical GTA packing SOP.
