Integration

Wood compliance and metal protection together

When solid wood packaging material is used internationally, apply ISPM-15 treatment and IPPC marking where required. Separately, dry clean metal, close multimetal VCI free volume, and add aluminium barrier free volume with sized desiccant when ocean weeks apply. Edge guards protect film from crate nails and cargo corners. Handling symbols follow ISO 780 practice. Packing lists must match case IDs.

Film is not the load path. Immobilise the cargo so ship motion does not tear free volume. Route lashing and blocking so fasteners do not puncture barrier bags.

Member size follows mass and dynamic factors, not visual bulk. Skid runners must support forklift entry without crushing. Cross members must prevent racking. Closed lids must not rely on nails alone where vibration loosens joints. Plywood panel thickness and edge fastening must match stacking and impact expectations.

Metal on damp timber is a corrosion risk. Use liners or VCI between bare machined faces and wood. Edge-guard free volume so lid nails cannot puncture barrier bags. A stiff crate that tears the climate bag still fails at sea.

Reusing wooden export crates without border risk

Reuse only after structure and marks are revalidated. Damaged runners, loose joints and incomplete IPPC marks are not export-ready. Repaired solid wood packaging material may need re-treatment and re-marking. Never paint over marks. Never mix unmarked dunnage into a marked pack.

Knock-down designs need reassembly QC: fastening checks, panel orientation and seal interfaces for climate free volume.
