What size wooden shipping crate do I need?
Size from the cargo envelope, handling clearances, blocking plan and lift method. Do not default to a stock size without measuring mass and geometry.
Open crate or closed case for ocean freight?
Closed cases add weather shell. Open crates need a deliberate weather and corrosion system. Both need immobilisation.
Must all export crates be ISPM-15 marked?
Solid wood packaging material used internationally generally needs treatment and marks where destinations enforce ISPM-15. Confirm construction and destination.
Can export crates be reused?
Structure and marks must be revalidated. Repaired solid wood packaging may need re-treatment and re-marking.
Where does VCI go in a wooden crate?
On the metal free volume after dry clean, inside the climate system, protected from nail and edge tears.
Do I still need desiccant with a closed crate?
If free volume or container climate carries multi-week humidity risk, yes. Wood walls alone do not replace desiccant unit design.
How should lift points be marked?
With clear handling symbols and mass information consistent with ISO 780 practice and the engineered lift plan.
What drives cost on custom export crates?

Does the IPPC mark prove structural strength?
No. The mark is phytosanitary. Structure is a separate engineering job.
Can plywood always skip ISPM-15?
Many processed wood constructions fall outside solid-wood WPM rules, but solid wood members and destination practice must be confirmed.
How do you stop free volume tears inside a crate?
Edge guards, immobilisation and routing fasteners so nails do not puncture barrier bags.
What belongs on the packing list for crate shipments?
Case IDs matching physical marks, quantities, masses and package types so goods-in can reconcile.
