A hobbing or gear-shaping machine holds involute profile accuracy through an index table, a hob spindle and a change-gear train that a single shock can throw out of tolerance, and its hobs and shaper cutters are brittle, ground tooling that chip if they so much as touch metal. BENZ packs the machine and its cutting tools as two separate, correctly protected consignments, on site.

Hobbers, gear shapers and gear shavers cut an involute tooth profile by coordinating two or three motions at once, the hob or cutter spindle, the workpiece index table and, on older mechanical machines, a change-gear train inside the gearbox. That coordination is set to arc-second tolerances at the OEM's works. A jolt that shifts the index table a few thousandths, or lets backlash creep into an unlocked gear train during transit, does not show up as visible damage. It shows up months later as a gear that will not pass inspection, and by then the cause is untraceable.
The second risk is the tooling that travels with the machine. Hobs, shaper cutters and shaving cutters are ground high-speed-steel or carbide edges, ground to the same involute form they cut, and a chipped tooth on a hob ruins every gear it subsequently cuts. These cannot be crated loose against a machine casting. BENZ separates machine from tooling at the point of packing, locks the index chain, and protects each to its own standard.
The work table, tailstock, hob slide or shaper ram and column are clamped to travel stops. On mechanical machines the change-gear cover is secured and the gear train is braced so backlash cannot creep in from vibration over a long road or sea leg.
Hobs, shaper cutters, shaving cutters and their mounting arbors are removed where practical, wrapped edge-protected in VCI paper and packed in individually slotted foam or timber tool boxes, never left to knock against the machine or each other.
The hob spindle taper, work table face and slideways are degreased, rust-preventive coated and given VCI vapour-phase protection to MIL-PRF-3420H, then the machine is sealed in a moisture barrier envelope with MIL-D-3464E desiccant for sea freight.
An engineered skid keyed to the machine's actual centre of gravity, which on a column-type hobber sits high and off-centre, calculated cushioning, and a heat-treated ISPM-15 crate built for crane lift and safe container stacking.
