Pharmaceutical Machinery Packaging

A pharmaceutical machine does not just need to arrive undamaged, it needs to arrive still qualified. IQ/OQ/PQ validation status can be compromised by uncontrolled handling or contamination, and re-validation at destination costs the customer weeks they usually cannot spare. BENZ packs pharma machinery to preserve both the metal and the qualification paperwork it travels with.

The challenge

The machine has to arrive both undamaged and still qualified.

Pharmaceutical machinery, tablet presses, granulators, capsule fillers and blister lines, is typically qualified through Installation, Operational and Performance Qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) before it ever leaves the works, and undocumented disassembly, contamination of a product-contact surface, or damage to a critical component can compromise that qualification, forcing a customer to re-validate at their own facility. That is a cost and a schedule delay most pharma buyers cannot absorb, and it makes the packing team's documentation discipline as important as its physical protection.

Underneath that sits tooling that fails the same way gear-cutting hobs and EDM electrodes fail: tablet press punches and dies are precision-ground tool steel, made to strict GMP tolerance and finish standards, and a chipped punch tip or scored die bore produces out-of-spec tablets from the day the machine restarts. BENZ handles both: pharma-grade, non-contaminating preservation on every product-contact surface, punches and dies cased as individually protected precision tooling, and full documentation of what was done to the machine before it travels.

How we pack pharmaceutical machinery

Qualification protected, not just the metal

Document the machine's condition and handling

Before packing, the machine's condition is recorded and any disassembly required for crating is logged step by step, so the customer's qualification team has a clear record of exactly what was touched and how, protecting the validation chain of custody.

Case punches, dies and change tooling separately

Tablet press punches, dies and compression tooling are individually wrapped and packed in slotted cases so their precision ground surfaces never contact the machine frame or each other, the same standard we apply to gear-cutting and EDM tooling.

Preserve product-contact surfaces to a pharma-grade standard

Stainless product-contact surfaces get a non-contaminating, easily removable preservation rather than a general oil-based rust preventive, so the machine is safe to clean down and requalify without a residue concern.

Seal, skid and crate

Control cabinets and sensitive electronics are sealed in moisture-barrier bagging with desiccant, and the machine is mounted on an engineered skid inside a heat-treated ISPM-15 crate.

Frequently asked

Pharmaceutical machinery packaging: questions

How do you pack pharmaceutical machinery for export?

We document the machine's condition and any required disassembly for the qualification record, case punches, dies and tooling individually, preserve product-contact surfaces with a non-contaminating pharma-grade coating, seal electronics in moisture-barrier bagging, then mount the machine on an engineered skid inside a heat-treated ISPM-15 crate.

Can shipping affect a pharma machine's IQ/OQ/PQ validation status?

Yes, uncontrolled disassembly, contamination or undocumented handling can compromise validation status and force a costly re-qualification at destination. We record the condition and any handling steps in a documented log so the customer's qualification team has a clear chain of custody.

How do you protect tablet press punches and dies during transit?

Punches, dies and compression tooling are individually wrapped and packed in slotted cases so their precision ground surfaces never contact the machine frame or each other, the same standard we use for other precision cutting and forming tooling.

Do you use pharma-grade preservation on product-contact surfaces?

Yes. Stainless product-contact surfaces get a non-contaminating, easily removable preservation rather than a general oil-based rust preventive, so the surface is safe to clean and requalify on arrival.

Do you pack pharmaceutical machinery on site at our facility?

Yes. A BENZ team comes to your plant with tooling and lifting equipment and packs the machine on your floor, documenting condition and handling as part of the process.

Are your pharmaceutical machinery crates ISPM-15 compliant?

Yes. All solid-wood crating and skidding is heat-treated and ISPM-15 stamped, with the treatment certificate supplied for customs clearance without quarantine or fumigation.

Shipping a tablet press or pharma machine?

Send the machine details or book an on-site survey. We protect the metal and the qualification record together.
