What VCI Paper Solves in These Two Manufacturing Regions
VCI paper is treated kraft that releases corrosion-inhibiting molecules within a closed package. Chicago-area suppliers can use it as interleave between stamped steel, tooling, precision machined parts and fabricated-metal kits moving through warehouses and intermodal transfers. Pittsburgh-region manufacturers can use conformable or reinforced grades around robotics hardware, energy components, advanced-metal parts and repair spares.
The regional risks are not identical. Chicago freight dwell can expose cartons to winter-heated buildings, cold trailers and humid summers; Pittsburgh parts may move between valley industrial sites, fabrication cells and mixed indoor-outdoor staging. In both cases, condensation, residual coolant and an open package defeat generic “anti-rust paper†claims. The grade must match the metal, geometry, dwell and closure.
