A laser cutter's real precision is not in its bed, it is in a beam path aligned to microns through mirrors, a focusing lens and, on fibre machines, a delivery cable with a minimum bend radius that a careless coil can permanently damage. Knock that path out of alignment in transit and the machine arrives structurally fine and optically useless. BENZ packs the beam path as carefully as the frame.

The challenge

The frame can survive a jolt the optics cannot.

On a CO2 or older-style laser, the beam travels through a series of bending mirrors from resonator to cutting head, each aligned to a fraction of a degree; a shock that shifts even one mirror mount throws the whole path off and the machine needs a field re-alignment before it can cut again. Fibre laser machines route the beam through a flexible delivery cable instead of open mirrors, which removes that specific risk but adds another: the cable has a manufacturer-specified minimum bend radius, and coiling it tighter than that during a move can kink and permanently damage it, an expensive part to source and replace overseas.

Under that sits the mechanical structure: a gantry running on precision ground rails with rack-and-pinion or linear-motor drive, and on water-cooled machines a chiller unit that must be drained before transit the same way an EDM dielectric tank must be. BENZ secures the cutting head and mirror mounts, respects the fibre cable's bend radius, protects the rail and drive, and drains the chiller, before the machine ever goes on a skid.

Optics secured before the frame is skidded

Secure the cutting head, mirrors and lens

The cutting head is locked to its home position, mirror mounts on CO2-type machines are clamped against vibration, the focusing lens and protective cover glass are removed and cased if the machine design allows, and the nozzle assembly is protected.

Protect the fibre delivery cable to its bend radius

On fibre laser machines the beam delivery cable is coiled and secured strictly within the manufacturer's minimum bend radius and cushioned against crush, never coiled tight to save crate space.

Drain the chiller and preserve rails and drive

The water-cooling chiller and lines are drained to prevent freeze damage, corrosion and added shipping weight; the gantry rails, rack-and-pinion or linear drive and bed are degreased and VCI protected to MIL-PRF-3420H.

Skid, crate and load-secure

An engineered skid sized to the machine's bed and gantry travel, calculated cushioning under the cutting head and control cabinet, and a heat-treated ISPM-15 crate built for crane lift and safe container stacking.

How do you pack a laser cutting machine for export?

We lock the cutting head and, on mirror-type machines, the beam-path mirror mounts, protect the fibre delivery cable within its rated bend radius, drain the chiller and cooling lines, preserve the gantry rails and drive with VCI, then mount the machine on an engineered skid inside a heat-treated ISPM-15 crate.

Can transit damage a laser cutter's optical alignment?

Yes, on machines with open mirror paths, a shock that shifts a mirror mount can throw the beam off axis enough to need a field re-alignment on arrival. We clamp and cushion every mirror mount specifically to prevent this before the machine is skidded.

How do you protect a fibre laser's beam delivery cable?

We coil and secure it strictly within the manufacturer's minimum bend radius and cushion it against crush and pinch points. Coiling it tighter than the rated radius can kink the fibre permanently, which is why this is handled as its own step, not left to generic wrapping.

Do you drain the chiller before shipping a laser or plasma machine?

Yes, on water-cooled machines the chiller unit and cooling lines are fully drained before transit to prevent freeze damage in cold transit, corrosion inside the lines and unnecessary shipping weight.
