A press brake or shear is not a compact machine, it is a rigid steel frame three to six metres long carrying a hardened blade or punch edge across its full span, and that length is exactly what a badly built skid gets wrong: unsupported sections sag, the frame twists, and the beam comes out of straightness before it ever cuts a sheet. The challenge

Length is the risk a single-skid crate never accounts for.

A press brake's ram and bed, or a shear's blade beam, run the full working length of the machine, often three to six metres on mid-size machines and considerably more on heavy plant. Support that span at only two points, the way a compact machine gets skidded, and the frame's own weight bows the unsupported middle over a long road or sea transit. That bow does not always show on arrival; it shows up as a bend line that will not hold tolerance or a shear cut that drifts across the sheet, and by then it is a warranty argument, not a packing one.

The second risk is the edge itself. Press brake punches and dies and shear blades are precision-ground, hardened tool steel, and a chip in that edge telegraphs directly into every part the machine produces afterward. BENZ engineers the crate to the machine's real span with cribbing at every load point, and protects the cutting and forming edges as the precision tooling they are.

Span supported, edges protected

Lock the ram and release hydraulic pressure

The ram, back gauge and any hydraulic cylinders are locked to travel stops or removed for separate crating on larger machines, and hydraulic pressure is safely released before the machine is moved, so nothing shifts or drifts under transit vibration.

Protect the blade, punch and die edges

Shear blades, press brake punches and dies are degreased, rust-preventive coated and VCI wrapped to MIL-PRF-3420H along their full length, then edge-guarded so the hardened cutting or forming face cannot be nicked by contact with the frame or crate.

Crib the full span, not just the ends

The skid is engineered with support points calculated across the machine's actual bed and beam length, not just under the two heaviest sections, so the frame carries no unsupported overhang that can sag or twist over a multi-week sea voyage.

Crate and load-secure to route

A heat-treated ISPM-15 crate sized to the machine's true length and weight distribution, with lashing points engineered for container loading and the long-beam geometry these machines carry.

How do you pack a press brake or shearing machine for export?

We lock the ram and back gauge and release hydraulic pressure, protect the blade or punch and die edges with rust preventive and VCI wrapping, build a skid with cribbing calculated across the machine's full bed and beam length rather than just its end points, then crate it in a heat-treated ISPM-15 crate sized to the machine's true dimensions.

Why does a long press brake or shear need special crating?

Because the ram, bed or blade beam runs the full working length of the machine, often several metres, and if it is only supported at two points the unsupported middle can sag or the frame can twist under transit loading. That shows up later as a machine that will not hold bend or cut tolerance, so we crib the full span.

How do you protect the blades and punches during transit?

Blades, punches and dies are degreased, coated with rust preventive, wrapped in VCI paper along their full cutting or forming edge to MIL-PRF-3420H, and edge-guarded so they cannot be nicked by contact with the frame, crate or other tooling.

Do you pack CNC press brakes with back gauges and tooling?

Yes. The back gauge is locked to travel stops, and punch and die tooling sets are either secured in the machine's own tool magazine or cased separately, depending on the machine and shipment.

Do you pack sheet metal machinery on site at our factory?

Yes. A BENZ team comes to your plant with tooling and lifting equipment and packs the machine on your shop floor, engineering the crate to the specific machine's length and weight distribution.

Are your sheet metal machinery crates ISPM-15 compliant?

Yes. All solid-wood crating and skidding is heat-treated and ISPM-15 stamped, with the treatment certificate supplied for customs clearance without quarantine or fumigation.
