A rolling mill rarely travels as one machine. It travels as a set of stands, work and backup rolls, chocks, gearboxes and a drive train, each a heavy, separately shipped component that must arrive able to go back together exactly as it came apart. A roll that rolls off its cradle, or a chock that gets separated from its matched roll, is a mill that cannot be reassembled on site. BENZ packs a mill as an engineered set, not a pile of heavy parts.

A work roll or backup roll is a precision-ground cylinder that can weigh anywhere from a few hundred kilograms to several tonnes, and being round is exactly the problem: an unblocked roll on a flatbed or in a container rolls with every lurch of the vehicle or every roll of the vessel, and each pass grinds its own ground barrel surface against whatever it touches. It has to be cradled in purpose-built saddles that stop rotation completely, not just chocked at the ends.
The second risk is at reassembly, not in transit. Roll neck bearings, chocks, stand housings and drive couplings are often fitted and shimmed to their specific roll or position at the OEM works, and if the shipment arrives with parts unmarked or mixed between crates, the site team loses days working out which chock, bearing and shim set belongs where. BENZ cradles every roll against rotation, protects every ground barrel and neck, and match-marks and documents every component set before it is crated, so the mill goes back together the way it came apart.
Work and backup rolls are set into purpose-built timber or steel saddles shaped to the roll diameter and chocked at multiple points so the roll cannot rotate or shift under road or sea motion, not just braced at the ends.
Roll neck bearings, chocks, stand housings and shim sets are tagged and documented to the specific roll and position they were fitted to at the OEM works, and packed so the marking survives the full journey to site.
Ground roll barrels, necks and bearing seating surfaces are degreased, coated with rust preventive and given VCI vapour-phase protection to MIL-PRF-3420H, since a rusted roll barrel has to be reground before it can run.
