What is seaworthy packaging for heavy machinery?
It is a complete ocean export system for capital equipment: clean dry preparation, corrosion control (usually VCI), moisture barrier and sized desiccant, immobilisation of moving parts, load-rated structure with ISPM-15 timber when solid wood is used, unit restraint, handling marks and documentation. Timber alone is not seaworthy packing for machinery.
Why do machines rust inside strong crates?

Do I need ISPM-15 for heavy machinery seaworthy crating?
If solid wood packaging material is used in international trade, yes: it must be treated and marked under ISPM-15. Non-compliant wood risks port delay, treatment or rejection. Plywood rules differ by construction; control all solid wood components including repairs.
Is vacuum packing required for every export machine?

Yes. On-site packing and crating is standard when machines cannot move to a packing bay. Plan weather control, clean staging, immediate sealing after VCI wrap, and safe lift access. Rain and dust make dry packing harder but do not remove the need for the full system.
What documents should travel with a packed machine?
Packing list, mass and dimensions, handling marks, ISPM-15 marks on solid wood, any timber or packing certificates the buyer requires, and a method note recording VCI grade, desiccant count and lock positions. Photos of critical stages support claims defence.
