The wood, foam and shrink film that protect most machinery are themselves a contamination risk on food processing equipment if they touch a product-contact surface directly, and the hollow jackets, chambers and CIP piping many of these machines carry trap moisture internally where nobody can see it, breeding mould and bacteria in a sealed crate over a multi-week voyage. The challenge

The packing material itself can be the contamination risk.

Most crating uses wood, standard foam and general packing materials in direct contact with the machine, which is exactly wrong for equipment that will touch food product on its first day of operation. Wood dust, splinters and untreated surfaces cannot be allowed against a product-contact zone, so every point of contact between the crate structure and the machine's food surfaces needs a hygienic barrier layer, food-grade film or sheeting, not the general wrap used on a lathe or a press.

The second risk is hidden. Mixers, cookers, pasteurisers and other food processing equipment often carry jacketed vessels, hollow chambers or CIP (clean-in-place) piping loops that hold residual moisture from final washdown at the factory. Sealed inside a crate for weeks, that trapped moisture does not just risk corrosion, it is a microbial growth environment, and a machine that looks clean on the outside can arrive with mould or bacterial growth inside a chamber nobody thought to check. BENZ drains and dries internal chambers and jackets before sealing, and keeps the crate structure itself out of contact with product surfaces.

Hygiene protected inside and out

Drain and dry jackets, chambers and CIP piping

Jacketed vessels, hollow chambers and clean-in-place piping loops are drained and dried before the machine is sealed, so residual washdown moisture cannot sit trapped for weeks and turn into a microbial growth risk inside a closed system.

Build a hygienic barrier at every contact point

Food-grade film or sheeting is placed at every point where the crate structure, bracing or cushioning would otherwise touch a product-contact surface, so no wood, foam or general packing material contaminates a food-safe zone.

Preserve stainless and exposed metal to a food-grade standard

Product-contact and general stainless surfaces are protected with a food-safe corrosion inhibitor to MIL-PRF-3420H rather than a general oil-based rust preventive, easy to wipe down before commissioning.

Skid, crate and load-secure

The machine is mounted on an engineered skid sized to its weight and geometry inside a heat-treated ISPM-15 crate built for crane and forklift handling.

How do you pack food processing machinery for export?
